Week 50--I Know Your Doing

Hey Loved Ones!

THINGS I NEVER THOUGH WOULD HAPPEN AS A MISSIONARY:
#39: Trying to explain to investigators what a Stake Center is: "There is a youth dance this weekend, and it is at the Stake Center."
"Wait, it's at Steak and Shake? The fast food place?"
#40: Played some beat to teach. Everytime we made a basket, the kids watching would erupt in cheers. "They've got the power of God on their side!" "Yeah, and she scored on you wearing PANTYHOSE!"🏀💃

We are having a grand old time. I think this is one of the happiest times in my life! Being on a mission is the best choice.

Cool experience of the week: We went to contact a referral a referral we were really excited about: She didn't have the exact address, so she just described the house. We knocked and found out we didn't have the right house! So we decided to knock all the doors around. We met John, who said he had a lot of contact with our church previously, and even had a Book of Mormon in Russian. He apparently had gotten like a doctorate in Russian for the heck of it. We had a good conversation but he just wasn't wanting to learn more.

Then we went to contact another referral the street over, the Shoafs' exchange student. She had to be emergency transferred and the Shoafs were first to volunteer! Grade A missionaries. Yuliya, her name is, turned out to be from Ukraine and her first language is RUSSIAN. So we hopped right back over to John and he gladly let us borrow the Book of Mormon, or Книги Мормона. What luck! 💚🍀

I just get more and more excited about the Book of Mormon just about every day. Charlie, our Roman Catholic friend, is enjoying looking at the Book of Mormon doctrinally, but having trouble starting at the beginning. We were given a training by our Zone Leaders, who said to "liken" a passage to the investigator. It was scary how much even the first verse of the Book of Mormon related to his life!

"I, Charlie, having been born‍ of goodly parentstherefore was taught‍ somewhat in all the learning of my father; and having seen many afflictions‍ in the course of my days, nevertheless, having been highly favored of the Lord in all my days; yea, having had great knowledge of the goodness and the mysteries of God, therefore make record‍ of my proceedings in my days. Yea, make record in the language‍ of my father, which consists of the learning of the Americans and the language of the English....For it came to pass in the commencement of the first‍ year of the reign of Donald TrumpPresident of America(my father...having dwelt in America in all his days); and in that same year there came many prophetsprophesying unto the people that they must repentor the great city Chicago‍ must be destroyed."

We were able to testify that unlike most of the Bible, the Book of Mormon was written for us, ME and YOU, living in this country today! What a comfort that even though Nephi, Jacob, Alma and Helaman, and many others explicitly said they didn't know why the Lord commanded them to write these things, were given a promise from the Lord it would benefit the people who would live here. And what a comfort that Mormon, who sifted through all the records of the past 1,000 years, knew exactly what we would need: "Behold, speak unto you as if ye were present, and yet ye are not. But behold, Jesus Christ hath shown you unto me, and know your doing." (Mormon 8:35)

🍀And I love you, but Jesus Loves You BEST!🍀
